The U.S. Census Bureau has officially defined "rural" as any population, housing, or territory NOT in an urban area. In other words, rural America is regarded as Everything Else.
But rural America is a rich tapestry filled with as much diversity as the lands we all share, and each place contains unique stories that connect it to countless others. These are voices of people and stories of places, often written off. They’re individuals and organizations challenging decades of structural exclusion and persistent impoverishment.
